Who can apply

  • High school seniors

Zomi high school seniors planning to attend college. You do not need a college transcript yet.

  • College and university students

Zomi students currently enrolled at a college or university.

  • Graduates continuing their education

College graduates pursuing further education, including MA, MS, PhD, MD, JD, and other advanced degrees.

The committee considers three equally weighted criteria:

  1. Academic excellence
  2. Service to the Zomi community

Excellence takes many forms, not just grades and test scores. Read more about the scholarship.

Before you start

What to prepare

Each document uploads separately. Having everything ready first makes the form quick to complete.

  • Resume

One to two pages, as a PDF. English or Zolai.

Tip Include your schooling, work, and community service, such as church, cultural, or student leadership roles.

  • Two recommendation letters

From third parties, not family members or friends. One PDF per letter. English or Zolai.

Tip Ask your recommenders early and share the deadline (March 15, 2027) with them. Letters from community members who can speak to your role and impact are particularly helpful.

  • High school transcript

    PDF.

Tip If you only have a paper copy, scan it, save it as a PDF, and check that every page is readable.

  • College transcript

Not needed for high school seniors

    PDF.

Tip If your school lets you download a transcript, save it as a PDF.

  • Photo in Zomi traditional clothing

    JPG or PNG.

Tip Choose a clear, well-lit photo of you. If you are selected, it may be used in announcements.

  • Personal statement

750 words or fewer, as a PDF. English or Zolai.

Tip Give yourself time for more than one draft, and read it aloud to hear what needs work. Save the final version as a PDF. Write in your own voice; light proofreading tools are fine, but heavy reliance on AI writing is discouraged.

The promptIn 750 words or fewer, tell us who you are. Share your academic journey and how you serve the Zomi community. Include concrete examples of your impact and explain how your past work connects to your future goals. Describe how the ZIUSA Scholarship would help you continue your education and service.

Good to know

  • Each file can be up to 10 MB, and all documents together up to 25 MB. PDFs must not be password protected.
  • The form does not save drafts. Nothing is stored until you submit.
  • Tip Give each file a clear name, such as Lastname-Resume.pdf, so you can pick the right one quickly.
